Kareri lake trek starts from Mcleodganj and leads to Kareri Village which is the basecamp of the trek. From Kareri village a gradual ascend through narrow ridges, crossing Kareri Nallah over a wooden bridge will take you to Kareri lake. You will be passed by thick pine forests and several quaint villages. The trek passes through the lush green meadows, flowing streams, wild and colorful orchards, thick forests of conifers & deodars, and a great variety of flora and fauna. There is also a Lord Shiva and Shakti temple at the top overlooking at the lake.

The best time to visit Kareri lake is in the months from May-June and Sept-October. It is advised to avoid trekking in monsoons. Summers are also best to experience the beauty of the lake.

To start this amazing trek first you have to reach Mcleodganj. You can take a direct bus from Delhi or Chandigarh and reach Mcleodganj.

Pathankot railway station is the nearest to Dharamshala. Take a train from Delhi and reach Dharamshala then take a bus and reach Mcleodanj.

Gaggal airport is the nearest 13km away from Dharamshala. Take a flight from Delhi and then Dharamshala by taking a cab from the airport.

As it is an easy to moderate trek, it is advised to be well prepared for this adventure.
